Geek Night @ AFL

 no-more-satellite-or-cable

Topic: How to Ditch Cable & Still Watch TV

October 13th   6:00 – 8:00 pm

This program will explore alternatives to cable TV services. Art Murray, volunteer computer instructor for the library, will share his insights and answer your questions.

Cable television is expensive. Sure, those big cable packages give you several hundred channels to choose from, but are you watching enough of them to justify the cost each month? For the majority of us, there are a handful of television shows or channels that we watch regularly. Join us at our next Geek Night as we discuss various alternatives that allow you to watch television and not be tethered to a two year cable TV commitment. We will discuss choices that include the use of a digital antenna, watching free over-the-internet channels, and streaming video options.

This program is free, no registration necessary.

Check Out Our New Video Reader!

             video reader

We are so lucky to have had an Aladdin Rainbow personal reader donated to us! Now folks with vision issues that don’t have their own video magnifier can use ours.

This reader is a full-color electronic magnifying device designed for use by people who have visual impairments (including “legal blindness”) which make it difficult or impossible for them to read ordinary printed materials. It can display images in full color, black and white, and several selectable foreground and background colors. The reader can be used to read books, pill bottles, photos, as well as to write checks, paint fingernails, sew, crochet or for whatever you need to magnify. The reader is in a more secluded corner of the library so privacy issues are minimal.

Help us spread the word about our new resource!
