A Visual Celebration of Tradespeople
By Sally Wiener Grotta
February 22 – March 30
American Hands is the photographer’s ongoing narrative visual celebration of those individuals – blacksmiths, weavers, spinners, glassblowers, bookbinders, rug makers, etc – who are keeping alive the traditional trades that built our country’s diverse culture.
This narrative series of portraits capture both the fascinating creative processes and the individual personalities of the crafts persons. This project has hit a resonant chord with the public and the art world, and continues to generate quite a “buzz.”
We invite you to take the time to view the portraits that are currently on display at the library and to attend our Take-A-Break Tuesday program this month to meet Sally and see many more artisans and find out about their trades.
