It was called “The Pennsy”. And for 122 years it was an industry leader. During its history, the Pennsylvania Railroad set the standard for all other railroads in America.

At one time it was the largest corporation, the largest railroad and the largest transportation company in the world. And from its many railroad innovations and landmark infrastructures, and because of its size and influence, the Pennsylvania Railroad was a driving force for the growth of this country during the last half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

This presentation will talk about its origins, growth, innovations and infrastructure, and finally, its ultimate demise.

Presented by James Bennett, Board Member, Friends of Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
